Safety matters in the latest issue of the CIF Construction magazine – out now

by | Nov 2, 2022

In this month’s edition of Construction magazine, we meet some of those who are striving to make a difference when it comes to building a better industry. This year’s Construction Safety Week campaign, extended to run throughout October, has further strengthened the focus on safety within the construction sector.

Now in its seventh year, Construction Safety Week 2022 saw scores of companies across Ireland sign up to celebrate best practice – to reinforce and promote the importance of safety, health and overall wellbeing at work and in life.

The industry’s safety record has been transformed from earlier decades and it is encouraging to see that efforts to improve standards and best practice remain constant. Thankfully today, life-changing incidents are the exception rather than the rule, thanks to the huge efforts of industry stakeholders who have invested in creating a safer sector for all. With Covid measures now firmly established, the CIF is urging companies to refocus on traditional ‘nuts and bolts’ safety procedures.

This call comes in the same week as the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) launched a two-week nationwide inspection campaign in construction to focus on the dangers of working at height.

Targeting both small and large construction sites across Ireland, it will connect with employers and the self-employed on everything from safety management techniques to risk assessment tools. Safety requires thoughtful practices and active consideration, complacency can never be allowed to creep in.

Protecting the people who build

The CIF’s annual Construction Safety Week shines a spotlight on the health, well-being and welfare of the 159,000+ people who work in Ireland’s construction sector.

This year, across the month of October, companies from all areas and levels of the industry partnered with the Construction Industry Federation to voice a resounding yes to safety. Good safety practice on site is the best tool we have towards building a safer industry for everyone. Safety must always come first. Safety matters to us.

Congratulations on another successful Construction Safety Week to all CIF member companies, partners and sponsors.
